What we believe

At Hurt Road Baptist Church, we believe…

The Bible is the inspired and only infallible and authoritative written Word of God. (Psalm 119; Matt. 4:4; Luke 24:27; 2 Tim. 3:16-17; 2 Peter 1:20-21).

There is one God, eternally existent in three Persons: God the Father, God the Son, and God the Holy Spirit. (Matt. 3:13-17; John 1:1-4, 14; 2 Cor. 13:14; 1 John 5:7)

In the Deity of the Lord Jesus Christ, in His virgin birth, in His sinless life, in His miracles, in His atoning death on the Cross, in His bodily resurrection, in His ascension to the right hand of the Father, in His personal, physical return to the Earth in power and glory to reign for a thousand years (John 1:1-4; Eph. 2:13-18; Rev. 19-20).

In the Blessed Hope—the Rapture of the Church at Christ’s coming (1 Thess. 4:13-18).

That salvation is by grace through faith, not of works , that the only means of being cleansed from sin is through repentance and faith in the precious blood of Christ, and in the new birth experience through regeneration by Holy Spirit (Ephes. 2:8-9, Rom. 5:1-2; Eph. 1:7; Col. 1:19-20; John 3:3).

In the sanctifying power of the Holy Spirit by which the believer is enabled to live a holy life (Rom. 6:3-14; 8:1-2, 11).

In the Resurrection of both the saved and the lost: the saved to everlasting life and the lost to everlasting damnation (Rev. 20:5-6, 11-15).

Our Values

The Gospel – We are committed to the teaching and preaching of the one, true Gospel of Christ. We focus on the truth that Christ is the one and only Son of God who died for our sins, according to the Scripture, that He was buried and then rose again according to the Scripture, that He appeared to His disciples demonstrating His deity and His power over sin and death, that He ascended into heaven to be seated at the right hand of the Father, and that He will one day fulfill His promise to come again in power and great glory to rule over all the earth.

Biblical Authority – We believe that God’s Word is truth, and we strive to make the Bible the sole authority of our faith and practice. All of our various ministries are designed to be Christ-centered and Gospel-driven, and governed by the authority of Scripture, not by the mere traditions of men.

Spirit-Empowered Worship – We believe worship is one of the greatest priorities of the local church, and that we are commanded by Christ to worship Him “in Spirit and in truth.” Therefore, we strive to be led and empowered by the Holy Spirit as we worship the Lord through praise and thanksgiving, through music and singing, and through the proclamation of God’s Word.

Prayer – We strive to be a praying church knowing that Jesus has called us to a life of prayer that we might not faint or lose heart, and that He called the central place of worship in Israel, a “house of prayer.” We believe that prayer is essential to the spiritual health of every church and to every believer individually.

Loving Fellowship – We recognize that the church is not a building nor simply an organization, but a body of believers who are united by their mutual faith in Christ. We strive to be a body of believers, who gather together in a spirit of love and encouragement, and we desire to relate to one another in a spirit of friendship, compassion, forgiveness, and humility.

The Great Commission – We function as a body of believers who are on mission with God. We are called to go into all the world in order to make disciples of all nations. Participating in personal evangelism and in local, regional, and international missions is a driving force in our church.

Excellence in Ministry – We strive to give our very best in all that we do for the Lord. We desire that every aspect of our ministry, from the most public to the most private, be done with excellence at all times.
